Customer Spotlight: Doug Heinbauh

Customer Name: Doug Heinbauh
Company: Gypsy Hill Stone
Job Title: Project Manager

Partner Rentals (PR): What do you do for your company?

Doug Heinbauh (DH): My company, Gyspy Hill Stone, performs installation of manufactured stone veneer products throughout the East Coast. As a project manager, my job is to ensure that job sites are run efficiently, on time, and on budget. On a daily basis, that means coordinating between our customers, suppliers, and our team.

PR: How did you get into your industry?

DH: Out of middle school, I had the privilege of working closely with my family, who were already established in the industry, and they served as my mentors and guides. They provided me with invaluable hands-on experience and taught me the intricacies of the craft. During this time, I had the opportunity to observe and participate in various aspects of stone installation projects. I learned about different types of stones, their properties, and the techniques involved in handling, cutting, and shaping them. My family taught me about the importance of precision and attention to detail in every step of the installation process.

PR: What’s the best advice you’ve ever heard?

DH: Don’t give up and keep on going. It will always get better. Life is filled with challenges and setbacks, and it’s easy to feel discouraged when faced with obstacles along the way. However, it’s important to remember that difficult times are not permanent and that better days will come.

PR: What’s the best advice you could give to someone just starting their career?

DH: Stick with it. There’s always another opportunity to go higher on the ladder. In any career or endeavor, progress may not always come as quickly or smoothly as we hope. It’s crucial to stay committed and persistent, even during challenging times. By sticking with your chosen path and continuously honing your skills and expertise, you increase your chances of reaching greater heights.

PR: What do you like to do outside of work?

DH: Outside of work, I enjoy going hiking, hunting, and fishing. Exploring the great outdoors gives me a much-needed contrast to the work that I do during the week.

PR: Which accomplishment are you most proud of (work-related or not)?

DH: I’m most proud of having been able to remodel my house and keeping up with my properties. Both tasks have been substantial undertakings that require a wide range of skills and knowledge. Just like my projects at work, they require practical skills and qualities such as self-reliance, determination, and the ability to learn and adapt.

PR: Tell me something about yourself that no one knows.

DH: I can be loud and bold, but deep down I’m a nice guy.

PR: What’s the weirdest fact you know?

DH: Weirdest fact? We have to get the job done on time. Seems obvious, but it’s an understanding that drives me and the rest of our team. Our desire to meet deadlines and deliver results on time is ingrained in our work ethic, driving us to efficiently accomplish our goals. Some think that we want to take longer to bill more time out to a customer, but that is simply not the case.

PR: If you didn’t have to work, what would you do with your time?

DH: Farming! I have a 480-acre farm that grows hay and corn. Without work, I’d be able to be more involved in the growth and development of crops, including irrigation, fertilization, and pest control. I’d also be able to expand my knowledge by experimenting with different farming techniques and staying up-to-date with advancements. I’d also enjoy spending time my with my family with the farm. Anything from working on the farm to enjoying the views and relaxing together.

PR: What is your favorite piece of construction equipment?

DH: Telehandler, for sure. I enjoy operating machines and jump at the opportunity to move material. Telehandlers are such a versatile addition to any job site and are typically the first and last machine on the job. I especially like them when they have heat in the winter. It’s a nice break from the cold!
